This is A Story About POP and IMAP
First there was there was POP.
The e-mail, users can import simple way e-mail from the mailbox and e-mail traffic, computer-to-one e-mail client.
Persistent organic pollutants is to always use the computer, manage e-mails from clients of two or more e-mail address, but using a different computer, the sound of a real big mess.
From a different computer to send e-mail is not saved in the correct location, the folder is not synchronized, read e-mails still have not read the signs on the back of the main computer.
The world wanted freedom to move and POP just did not cut it.
Webmail entered as tough competition.
Concentrating on the weak points of email clients, webmail entered the scene offering access from anywhere, freedom to work on any computer, no installation of software, automatic sychronization across all computers… tough competition but still not enough. As a minor downside a hotmail.com address was not professional enough but the major setback had users jumping back to email clients – no internet connection, no data, no way of reading stored emails, no way of starting new emails, no way of accessing contacts.
IMAP entered the fray.
Email users could now synchronize their email across different computers using an IMAP server. Their main computer and their laptop could be in sync. A two way flow of emails is enabled with IMAP, meaning sent mail appears in the sent mail folder on both computers, email sorted into folders is found in the same folders on other computers, read mail is marked as read on any computer. A huge step forward indeed.
But the world wants still more freedom. Email has to be accessible from ANYWHERE. Not just our own computers. And not just new mails you can get on a mobile device, we want access to ALL emails; sent, received, from last week, last month.
In came Easy-Email as a mediator.
Easy-Email listened to both sides and worked out how to get the best features of webmail and the best features of email clients working seamlessly together.
- POP all your emails through to Gmail
- Enable Gmail IMAP so Gmail acts as a synchronization hub
- Synchronize your email clients with Gmail.
The result: seamless access to all your email, from your favorite email client on your own computers or from Gmail using any other computer. All email is automatically synchronized. All your emails from all your email addresses are accessible in one window with one login on any computer!
The Easy-Email solution is set out in a series of downloadable, easy to follow guides. Just set it up once and simplify your eLife!
POP stands for Post Office Protocol and is the function that allows Gmail to pick up email from another mailbox.
An email client is the software program you use to manage your email such as Outlook, Live Mail, Thunderbird or Apple Mail.
Webmail is a web-based version of an email client. Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Aol etc. are the largest webmail providers.
IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol and it is the function that allows you to synchronize your mail between different accounts.
